\n<\/em><\/strong>The Italian version of Vladimir Maksimov\u2019s magazine \u201cKontinent\u201d was published by\u00a0Garzanti<\/a>, who, however, printed only two issues in 1975 and 1981.\u00a0In 1981 Jaca Book<\/a>\u00a0published two large issues entitled\u00a0Continente \u2013 Rivista letteraria, sociopolitica e religiosa dell\u2019Est europeo <\/em>(Continent \u2013 Journal of Eastern European Literature, Socio-politics and religion).
\nIn Italy, \u201cKontinent\u201d was also linked to various public events in which members of the editorial board participated such as the conference organised by Maksimov in 1984 in Milan, on the 10th anniversary of the magazine\u2019s foundation with speakers from the United States, Israel and various parts of Europe. Iurii Mal\u2019tsev<\/a>, one few of the few Russian emigrants to settle in Italy was saddened by the almost total absence of an audience and the scant attention paid to the event by the newspapers (cf. Mal\u2019tsev 2015: 156).\u00a0Sergio Rapetti<\/a>, a Russian scholar and an important intermediary between Italy and the \u2018Second Culture\u2019, recalls, on the contrary, that the magazine was read in Italy more widely than suggested by a first glance (cf. Ciottoli 2016: 92).
\nThe official presentation of the Italian version of the magazine was held in Milan on 5 May 1981, at the Centro culturale San Fedele, during the conference\u00a0Cultura, arte e libert\u00e0 <\/em>(Culture, Art and Liberty) attended by, among others, Iosif Brodskii, Aleksandr Zinov\u2019ev and the sculptor \u0116rnst Neizvestnyi (cf.\u00a0ibid<\/em>.). Additional events connected to the magazine included Un continente per la cultura<\/em>\u00a0(A Continent for Culture) in Milan, in May 1983, which was dedicated to Andrei Sakharov<\/a>, who was imprisoned at Gor\u2019kii at the time, and the conference of October 1990, Una sindrome del post-totalitarismo. <\/em>Il problema nazionale in URSS: rinnovamento o guerra civile?<\/em> (A syndrome of post-totalitarianism. The National Problem in the USSR: Renewal or Civil War?.
\nThis latter took place in the Chamber of Deputies in Rome (cf.\u00a0ibid<\/em>.: 93-94) during the perestroika<\/em> period and was attended by a several editors of Soviet magazines and newspapers as well as Aleksandr Iakovlev, Gorbachev\u2019s advisor and a leading figure behind the perestroika <\/em>reforms. Among the speakers, was the literary critic Igor\u2019 Vinogradov, who would soon become director of \u201cKontinent\u201d in its new Moscow headquarters.<\/p>\n
